OverView of App

The application I will like to create is a mobile application that users can learn about the different planets in our solar system as well as test their understandings of the planets.

ExISTING pROBLEM

There is not much mobile applications that can educate the public of our planets of solar system and even if there is it wouldn’t be as useful since it does not test the users after they have learnt so much. This helps those interested in Astronomy get more in depth with learning.

This is a 3D application guide to the solar system.

Analysis

Feature:

View sky , locate planets in 2D or 3D
Shows time when planets are visible
Rotating 3D Globe of planets and Moon

Strength:

Different perspective of the Sky in 2D, 3D
Useful functions like visibility of different planets .
Accurate locating of moon and planets .
Intuitive App for beginners.

Weaknesses:

It links user to Wikipedia which defeats purpose of having an application
The User interface looks rather messy for the 3D Sky view with shapes all around pages not user friendly.

Explore Planet –Education Game

A game application for kids to learn some facts about planets while playing games.

Analysis

Features:

Study Solar System in details
Play Games related to solar system, galaxy.

Strength:

Beautiful User interface especially for kids .
Integration of learning with games making it less dull for kids.
Supports iPad too which kids nowadays have.

Weaknesses:

Limited Levels only 9 levels which will cause of user to not use application after they have finish 9 levels.

Home Page :

User see this page when App is launched

Allow users to spin the globe to see Earth texture in 360 mode, select planet to learn about.

MENU Page :

Users see this page when they click on Earth menu logo on top right of their screen.

Allow users to navigate between the different planet easily.

Info Page :

Users see this page click Learn more button at home page or when they use the menu to direct to any planet page or when they click on info tab.

Allow users to see information of the planet they selected like Size , fun facts. The view is draggable and it will be expand to look like the right

Quiz Page :

Users see this when they enter the Quiz Page

Allow users to answer questions regarding the planets they just learnt about and view Score at end.

Analysis

Strength:

Quiz section is not a niche feature making it a more unique planet application.
Minimalistic and nice User Interface design.
Simple and intuitive Application to use.
Does not require internet connection, login so it is very accessible.

Weaknesses:

Lack interesting features.
Can be exploring Moons, Suns too not just planets too small audience based.

Opportunities:

Not many Applications about Astronomy market potential can be bigger.
Especially since Pandemic Covid-19 there will be more people having more time thus these applications can help entertain those aspiring Astronomers.
Unique features will often attract more users.

Threats:

Competitors like NASA their Website already has a lot more information features of Solar System.
Astronomy applications don’t seem to have much appeals to users causing market to be affected also .

Quiz Page

This would be the feature i say is the one that distinguishes my application from others cause of the quiz that many other application don't have which defeats the purpose of learning. Having application of knowledge is needed to aid learning.

Color Scheme

The color I used throughout this application is rather consistent as I use colors like Black, White , gray since my background is mostly black white and gray would complement well and also that their color tones are very close which is why I used it. It can be seen in my info page for example the color scheme is very consistent throughout.

Design Concepts

For this Application I have an icon that is really simple which is just words and for the Letter O since it is shape of earth I replace Letter O with the image of the earth as shown in image above.

As you can see this is the Venus design I had It is very similar to the other planets I designed I designed it all by myself except the planet textures which I used from https://www.solarsystemscope.com/textures/.
I designed it by taking parts of the map that best represent the planet and syphered it which is how I made it into a circle . For the background I just added black and dots which are really small to represent stars we see in the sky.

This application i would say is one of the more Applications i would say i focused more on designing since UI/UX Design has been a field of work i will want to work towards in my journey as an Application Developer. Designing something related to the galaxy has been something i always wanted to try although the textures pack of the planets were not mine but it's quite an experience.

This i would say is something we can all relate to the world of Astronomy.
